Apprentice Trainee General Practice Assistant

Apprenticeship based in Windsor!

During your apprenticeship you will learn to:

  • Manage the Practice’s appointment system, including booking, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Handling Practice correspondence, both paper and electronic, and attaching it to the patient record
  • Dealing with requests from patients, team members, and external agencies. Updating data on the electronic patient record system EMIS
  • Providing administrative support to doctors and the practice manager. Ensuring accurate data entry and learning key Practice procedures
  • Collaborating with other health professionals and filing all lateral flow results. Undertaking short projects as part of your apprenticeship training program
  • Identifying important clinical data from correspondence, such as new diagnoses, peak flow measures, blood pressure readings, height, weight, and smoking status
  • Coordinating test requests (bloods, x-rays, scans, etc.) through the workflow process, including contacting patients, generating test request forms, and arranging follow-up coordination as needed
  • Drafting responses to consultation letters for GPs
  • Strive to achieve your best and understand the pass to distinction grade outcomes available for your apprenticeship
  • Take responsibility for reflecting on your own learning needs and prioritising these as part of your training schedule
  • Ensure you have an excellent attendance record to enable you to take full advantage of the training, to support the achievement of your apprenticeship
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of modules and assignments, striving for the best quality by seeking advice and support from your mentors
  • Attend and fully participate in all learning activities scheduled, even if they are in addition to the minimum off-the-job training requirement
  • Seek clarification immediately where tasks or subjects are unclear, to ensure you don’t fall behind with your learning schedule
  • Participate in English and maths tests at the start of the programme
  • Achieve the Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications in maths and English if required
