On 8 July, Berkshire Careers Hub ran another successful Teacher Encounters event. Many thanks to Jack Tame from FSP, Kate Evans, Employer Engagement Enterprise Coordinator from Berkshire Careers Hub as well as the careers leaders and teachers who attended this exciting encounter. Together we aimed to strengthen the connection between curriculum and careers so that teachers can help their students gain essential career skills.
The day at FSP began with an introduction at 10:00 am where the attendees had the opportunity to get to know each other and the company. The attendees were then introduced to the company’s apprentices and graduates. This was a great opportunity for the attendees to learn about the student’s experiences in navigating the job market whose background varied from university graduates to apprentices. This was highly valuable as it allowed the graduates and apprentices to share their experiences as young people starting in the tech industry.
After a lunch break and an opportunity to network, the group examined case studies from individuals working in a variety of sectors from Cloud to cyber security to data and AI.
The day concluded with a final discussion on how to embed careers skills in the curriculum. The attendees also had the chance to ask any questions that they had.
We had incredible feedback from the event. Sian, a careers coach for Brighter Futures For Children said:
First of all, I’d like to thank CEC for being flexible and allowing me to join the Encounter! It was clear that FSP had put a lot of effort into planning the Encounter day, it was especially good to hear from so many different people who work there and find out more about the recruitment processes, apprenticeships and grad scheme options and more general information about the organisation. I’d love to attend future encounter sessions as it was a great way to network and develop local labour market information.

What Is A Teacher Encounter?
The Teachers Encounter Programme benefits a wide variety of guests from school and college teachers to careers advisors. The event offers multiple benefits including confidence building, the opportunity to speak with recent graduates and success stories, and a chance to network and build connections. The event allows teachers to gain key insight into the hiring process, and it allows them to gain knowledge of the experience of students and employers.
If you are a teacher and would like to engage school colleagues and embed careers into the curriculum, get in touch with Berkshire Careers Hub about our Teacher Encounters Programme.
We would love to hear from you!
